Montreal man sues city and police officers over arrest while holding Israeli flag

The Lawfare Project is supporting Daniel Bercovici’s lawsuit against the City of Montreal and four police officers over his arrest at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal on September 14, 2025. Represented by Spiegel Ryan LLP, Bercovici alleges that officers used excessive force, unlawfully searched and arrested him, and filed materially false reports while he peacefully held an Israeli flag. According to the lawsuit, the prosecution withdrew the obstruction charge after reviewing defense video evidence. The case seeks compensatory and punitive damages for the alleged violations of his rights.
