Dallas mental health clinic sued for antisemitic discrimination and retaliation

The Lawfare Project has filed a federal lawsuit against D2 Counseling, a mental health clinic in Dallas, Texas, and its co-owners Dr. Dina Hijazi and Rev. Daniel Gowan, alleging unlawful antisemitic discrimination and retaliation in violation of Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866.

The lawsuit was brought on behalf of Jewish therapists Yocheved Junger and Jacqueline Katz, who were wrongfully terminated after opposing workplace discrimination. The complaint details how the clinic’s leadership blocked them from providing culturally competent care to a Jewish client experiencing trauma related to antisemitism, while routinely allowing such care for clients of other backgrounds. When Junger and Katz raised concerns about the discriminatory treatment and objections to being silenced, they were terminated within 24 hours.

This case highlights the ongoing problem of antisemitism in workplaces, including in small businesses, and affirms that discrimination based on Jewish identity is unlawful race discrimination that will be challenged in court.
