Lawfare Project represents student who returned home from school with swastika carved into his back
In April 2023, The Lawfare Project was retained as counsel for a 17-year-old Jewish student who was the victim of a harrowing antisemitic attack at Clark High School in Las Vegas. The student, who is autistic and nonverbal, and attended school with a service dog, had been denied the special education support he was entitled to under both federal and state regulations. His ordeal came to light when his mother discovered a swastika carved into his back and realized her son was not safe in his school environment.
The student, who was wearing a yarmulke at the time of the alleged attack, had his safety compromised by the apparent absence of security cameras at the school. The perpetrators of the attack remain unidentified.
In November 2023, The Lawfare Project filed a legal complaint against the Clark County School District (CCSD) for alleged violations of the student’s civil rights, both under state and federal law. The legal team also included Hillary Freeman, Esq. of Freeman Law Offices, LLC, and Nevada-based attorney Lori Rogich of the Rogich Law Firm, PLLC.
In June 2024, LP secured a highly favorable settlement for the student. This came after a year-long battle that exposed the district’s failure to provide a safe learning environment and its neglect in addressing systemic Jew-hatred. Despite clear evidence that the attack occurred on school grounds, the district failed to take meaningful action. Through aggressive advocacy, LP was able to achieve a settlement that not only included substantial monetary compensation but also ensured the student received alternative educational services outside the district, providing him with the safe and supportive environment he had been denied.
This outcome sends a powerful message: institutions that ignore or allow antisemitic violence and systemic discrimination will be held accountable.
