Position: Legal Research Assistant / Office Administrator


The Lawfare Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit legal think tank, is seeking a legal assistant / office administrator to work full-time in our midtown Manhattan office.

The ideal candidate will have experience in legal research and writing as well as admin, but we will consider applicants who have excellent admin experience but lack a legal background. This position is a great fit for recent law school graduates who possess strong administrative abilities, as well as individuals who have paralegal/legal secretary experience. We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, and capable of simultaneously handling a number of different tasks and projects. If you want to get into the non-profit world, this is a wonderful opportunity.

Administrative duties will include:

  • Writing short articles and blog posts on lawfare developments (applies only to applicants with a legal background)
  • Receive and screen visitors and telephone calls
  • Schedule and arrange meetings, conferences, conference calls, events, etc., notify invitees, and maintain RSVP lists
  • Maintain various contact lists/databases
  • Maintain and monitor To-Do list, including sending reminder emails to staff
  • Maintaining databases with donor information
  • Enter expenses into QuickBooks (prior experience with QuickBooks is preferred but not required)
  • Prepare binders containing material about and prepared by The Lawfare Project (temple will be provided)
  • Arrange travel plans for staff
  • Review legal documents, articles, and other compositions for errors
  • Miscellaneous filing
  • Post articles and other updates to Twitter and Facebook

Applicants must have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver and very basic HTML is a plus but not required.
