Catalan broadcasting company apologizes for Jew-hatred, issues warning

When two Israeli swimmers successfully competed in Spain's Artistic Swimming Qualification Tournament this summer, sports commentator Clara Basiana spewed disparaging comments during a live TV broadcast, calling Israel’s “international presence” a “strategy for whitewash [sic] the genocide and violations of human rights that they’re committing against the Palestinian people." This tendency to blame all Israelis for the actions of the Israeli government is firmly rooted in anti-Semitism.

The Lawfare Project submitted a complaint to the public broadcasting authority demanding an investigation into its employee's breach of standards. In a decisive move, the authority affirmed in writing that Basiana’s hateful comments violated broadcasting standards and “cannot be justified,” issued a formal apology, and warned Basiana and all other collaborators that such violations would result in contract termination.
